Message from the Principal

Welcome to our White Gum Valley Primary school website where we hope to provide you with information about our wonderful school.

Our school has been part of the Valley for 123 years and along with the Hazel Orme Community Kindergarten caters for the educational needs of children within the community.

White Gum Valley Primary School reflects Fremantle in that we have a diverse range of nationalities and Aboriginal groups working together in a school with a strong sense of Community and Sustainability.

Our school motto ‘Take pride’ not only represents pride in the school and its surroundings but it also represents the achievements we encourage in our students social, emotional and academic growth.

Many of the students attached to the Hazel Orme Community Kindergarten feed into our Pre Primary.

Currently the students from Pre Primary to Year 4 are located in classrooms that surround our Centennial garden.

The students in Years 5-6 are located in the Cluster Block.

Our buildings also include: an undercover area, a well-equipped Library, Music room, an Art room/science lab and a separate Transportable for the White Gum Valley Playgroups and Horizon After School Care Group that share our site.

The school runs Music, Sport, Art and Italian Language programs along with support for Literacy and Numeracy taking place. Many other programs run at different times of the year.

Some of our students have been selected for PEAC [Primary Extension and Challenge] and/or IMSS (Instrumental Music Schools Service) courses. These are run at other schools.

The individual differences of our students are catered for by our skilled staff and inclusive approach to all aspects of our educational programs, whilst meeting the Education Department focus areas.

We encourage sustainability through various initiatives including: battery, paper, phone and food scrap recycling. We have water-wise gardens, solar panels for power, tanks that harvest rain water to run our toilets and have installed energy efficient lighting. Deciduous trees have also been planted to enhance summer shade.

Our school embraces learning opportunities through the Technologies with the school investing in sets of Lap Tops, iPads, iMacs and desktop computers. An Interactive Whiteboard is now available in each of the classrooms.

Students at the end of Year 6 feed into many government and non-government schools around our region, including Fremantle College, John Curtin College and Melville Senior High School – many for specialist selective programs.

The staff are very grateful for the support of the Parents and Citizens’ Association (P&C). They actively support and run the Canteen and Uniform shop as well as many fundraising ventures. These include: Community fundraising evenings, discos, catering for functions, raffles and providing assistance to the school.

The School Board consisting of parents and members of staff actively work together towards meeting the goals of our Business Plan. They provide a great link between the school and other groups within our School community.

Our committed and skilled teaching staff enjoy working at White Gum Valley PS. They range from Graduates to highly experienced Senior and Level 3 Teachers. The range of staff adds to the vitality of the school and its programs.  Our wonderful Non-Teaching staff consisting of skilled Education Assistants, Administration staff, Chaplain, Psychologist Aboriginal Education Worker, Cleaners and Gardener all contribute towards the wellbeing of our students.

‘A community of learners in a small community focused school.’ We hope you embrace our School Community and what it has to offer.
